Attard Runs Into Ladies

Level 24: 30,000/60,000 (60,000)
Entries: 39/1,444

Mark Attard jammed for 600,000 from the button and was called by Ciro Perna from the big blind.

Mark Attard: K10
Ciro Perna: QQ

“Oh crap,” Attard said when he was what he was up against. His king-ten suited didn’t improve on the 62995 board and was on the rail in 41st place for €2,040 along side Dani Kass Gergi and Jake Allen.

Meanwhile, players laddered up and we caught Filippos Avramidis out of the corner of our eye become the first player to collect the €2,340 prize after he lost his short stack with queen-jack against king-jack.

Sevens Good for Mortensen to Oust Pendov

Level 24: 30,000/60,000 (60,000)
Entries: 42/1,444

Krasen Pendov had a string of bad luck and just went out on a flip. He got his short stack in with ace-ten suited and was up against the sevens held by Sebastian Mortensen.

The board ran dry for Pendov and he was on the rail alongside Giovanni Piccione, Boro Skalonja, and Alessandro La Cava.

Hetland Delivers Bad Beat to Pendov (Again)

Level 24: 30,000/60,000 (60,000)
Entries: 48/1,444

Leif Hetland three-bet jammed from the blinds for 1,115,000 and was called by Krasen Pendov from late position.

Leif Hetland: AQ
Krasen Pendov: KK

Pendov was for good reasons disappointed on the 463QQ runout as this allowed Hetland to crack his cowboys with trips.

“That’s the second time this has already happened to me against him,” Pendov shared.

Pendov still has plenty of time to turn things around, although now he will need to run it up with a short stack to get started.

Meanwhile, things went differently for Romain Nardin, who around the same time hit the rail in 48th place for €2,040.

Leif Hetland – 2,300,000
Krasen Pendov – 500,000

Liu Busts Roman-Tamaduianu

Level 24: 30,000/60,000 (60,000)
Entries: 48/1,444

Junyu Liu got a jam through on William Kassouf in a blind vs. blind situation despite plenty of table talk from Kassouf. Shortly after, Liu won another hand for a bigger pot.

Andrei Roman-Tamaduianu jammed his short stack from early position before Junyu Liu came along for the ride from the button.

Andrei Roman-Tamaduianu: Q7
Junyu Liu: 77

Liu’s sevens were good on the 510J4J board and Roman Tamaduianu was the first player on the rail.

Bartuschk Wasn’t Optimistic His Nines Would Hold

Level 24: 30,000/60,000 (60,000)
Entries: 49/1,444

Fabian Bartuschk opened for most of his 460,000 from early position. Allan Arjut jammed over the top from the big blind. Bartuschk went into the tank for about a minute before he called.

Fabian Bartuschk: 99
Allan Arjut: 77

“Well, you are in good shape,” Arjut said to a nervous Bartuschk.

“This always happens to me,” replied Bartuschk as he awaited his fate.

Bartuschk wound up doubling his stack after his nines held on the [invalid notations] board for a better flush.

Antonios Onoufriou Leads Final 49 in Grand Event

The 2023 Malta Poker Festival (MPF) Autumn Edition €550 Grand Event powered by the Unibet DeepStack Open (USDO) has been a success by any measure with 1,444 entries creating a huge €693,120 prize pool to not only blast past the €500,000 guarantee but also set a new gold-standard for the festival.

The second day began with 361 players advancing from the seven opening flights but just 159 of them would finish in the money. It was a brutal finish for Nicolaj D’Antoni as he finished on the stone-cold bottle in 160th place when his cowboys failed to hold against Unibet Poker Qualifier William Johnstone’s queens.

Players began to hit the rail shortly after that and after ten blind levels of 50 minutes each, the Grand Event trimmed down to just 49 hopefuls entering the final day in hopes of winning this history event.

Cyprus’ Antonios Onoufriou (feature image) ended the day in the captain’s chair after earning a 4,645,000 stack for 77 big blinds to lead the way. Both Romania’s Paul-Vlad Craciunas (3,990,000) and Poland’s Kamil Skawinski (3,150,000) advanced with more than 3 million in chips whie Allan Arjut (2,625,000), Alessandro La Cava (2,385,000), Kjetil Hanstvedt (2,370,000), Salvatore Incardona (2,300,000), Robert Kontkanen (2,275,000), Dan Miron (2,220,000), Andreas Liperis (2,050,000), and Clausin Sanz (2,035,000) all bagged more than 2 million.

William “Nine-High Like a Boss” Kassouf wasn’t too far behind this pack with 1,910,000 while Guts Poker’s Jonathan Briscoe White (1,070,000), Junyu Liu (1,020,000), Samuel Biland (780,000), Mark Attard (680,000), and Thomas Harnes (480,000) were among the players on the lower-end of the totem pole of the chip counts.

Meanwhile, FLIP ambassador Ann-Roos Callens and Unibet Poker ambassador and The Chip Race co-host David Lappin both had deep runs only to go out during the final moments of the day for a €1,790 cash each.

The action is set to resume for the final day on Monday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. with blinds at 30,000/60,000 along with a 60,000 big blind ante and increase every hour.

Final Three Hands

The floor announced that players will play three more hands before bagging and tagging their chips for the end of the day. Unfortunately, Ann-Roos Callens won’t be coming back for the final day as she hit the rail in 51st place for €1,790 after losing her short stack.

Stay tuned for all of the second-day payouts, the final Day 2 chip counts, and the final day seat draw before we call it a night ourselves.
