There were already a handful of yellow 5,000-denominated chips in the pot with the 7♦9♠3♣ on the board after the flop when two players, who already chipped up their stacks, tangled.
Griegio Geerman checked before Martin Ganchev bet 9,000. Geerman called to see the 2♣ turn. Geerman quickly checked. Ganchev paused for a few moments before he bet 10,000. Geerman paused for about 15 seconds before he tossed away his hand.

Karl Gialanze checked the A♣8♣6♥7♦ board after the turn. Stig Horup fired out for around 2,000 into a pot of more than double that. Gialanze jacked it up to 6,500 and Horup called.
Gialanze quickly bet 11,000 after the Q♣ river completed the board. Horup paused for less than 10 seconds before he called. Gialanze turned over the 9♥5♥ for the straight. Despite losing the hand, Horup opted to table his cards as well and turned over the A♥7♥ for a turned two-pair.

The Day 1e field has already soared past 200 entries. Romania’s Iacob Dragos was one of the entries but was the first player on the rail.
It was a five-bet pot preflop when Dragos check-called a small bet by Stribor Gruicic on the J♣4♠4♥ flop. Both players checked after the [invalid notations] river. Gruicic snapped it off and snagged the early chip lead after his A♠A♣ proved to be more than enough to beat Dragos’ Q♥Q♠.

The 2023 Malta Poker Festival (MPF) Autumn Edition has been booming with plenty of players battling it out in the Grand Event, the side events, and, of course, cash games at the luxurious surroundings of Portomaso Casino for a week of thrilling poker action.
The crown jewel of the festival in the €500,000 guaranteed MPF €550 Grand Event powered by the Unibet DeepStack Open (UDSO) already attracted a banner field of 800 entries during the first three opening flights including 252 entries on Thursday’s Day 1c alone. With three more opening flights, who knows how big the Grand Event will grow.
While the focus of our coverage will be on Day 1e of the Grand Event starting when it kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday, we will also sprinkle in some flavor from the side events, the turbo Day 1f that kicks off at 9 p.m., and activities away from the poker action.
The Grand Event boasts seven opening flights from October 24-29 with surviving players battling it out for two more days on October 29-30 until the latest winner is crowned.
